As the retreat comes together, I’ve been sitting with something I didn’t expect to feel: a mix of hope… and heartbreak.
Hope, because I know what this retreat can do for store owners. Heartbreak, because I’m realizing how many of them don’t see it yet — not because they’re stubborn, but because they’re exhausted.
When I reach out, I hear the same lines:
“I can’t break away for X days.”
“That’s our busy season.”
“I’d love to, but the store needs me.”
And every time, I feel this ache in my chest — not frustration, but recognition. Because I’ve lived that life. I know what it feels like to be the only one holding everything together. I know what it feels like to believe that stepping away, even for a moment, will make the whole thing collapse.
And drowning doesn’t look dramatic. It looks responsible. It looks dedicated. It looks like “I’ll rest later.”
The other thing I’m running into — and this one hits differently — is the quiet confidence some owners have. The belief that they already know what they need to know. A few have even offered to come teach or speak.
And I get it. When you’ve survived decades in this industry, you should feel confident. You’ve earned that. But here’s what they don’t realize:
This retreat isn’t about teaching them how to run a store.
It’s about giving them space to breathe.
It’s about helping them see the blind spots no one ever points out.
It’s about showing them the version of themselves they’ve forgotten.
Most store owners don’t know they need that. Not until someone shows up who understands their world so deeply that they finally feel seen.
That’s the part that gets me emotional. Because I know what it’s like to wish someone had stepped in sooner — someone who had been through the same storms, someone who could say, “You don’t have to carry all of this alone.”
So I’m learning to speak from that place — not from sales, not from persuasion, but from truth:
Some won’t hear it yet. Some aren’t ready. Some are too deep in survival mode to imagine anything different.
And that’s okay.
Because the right people — the ones who are ready to reclaim their life, their clarity, their energy — will feel it the moment they read these words.
This retreat isn’t a luxury.
It’s a turning point.
And I’m here to guide them through it.
